Choosing a Sportsbook

A sportsbook is a place where people can make wagers on different sporting events. These wagers are called “props,” and they range from player or team props to game-related props such as the number of points scored in a certain quarter of a game. In addition to predicting the outcome of a game or event, the oddsmakers at sportsbooks set the probability that something will occur and then let bettors decide how much they want to risk on those chances. The higher the risk, the more the potential payout.

When choosing an online sportsbook, it’s important to investigate each one to find out which sports they offer and how many betting options are available for those sports. Look for a site that accepts your preferred payment method and has an extensive resource section to answer any questions you might have. Also, consider whether the sportsbook offers a mobile version and how much it charges to use it.

Legal sportsbooks in Arizona

The state’s retail and online sportsbooks went live in September 2021, with DraftKings, FanDuel, PointsBet and Caesars leading the way. The retail and online sportsbooks were the first in the country to offer this type of gambling, following months of maneuvering in the legislature and public statements of support from Gov. Doug Ducey. The other states that have legalized sports betting include New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada.
